WHO WE ARE

home

MGEP (Mukogodo Girls Empowerment Program) is a local indigenous pastoralist woman led community-based organization founded in early 2014 by local indigenous women leaders from Laikipia and Isiolo County to provide an institutional framework for dealing with ubiquitous violation of fundamental human rights of women and girls across pastoral areas.

We exist to build an inclusive society in pastoral areas of Laikipia and Isiolo where the human rights of women and girls are respected and promoted as well as empower women and girls in all spheres of life. Our approach is to utilize culturally sensitive methodologies to sensitize and educate local people on the positive sustainable impact of empowered women and girls. Our programmatic core areas of focus include ending FGM and Child marriage, promotion of women and girl’s rights including access to sexual & reproductive health rights and services, promotion of girls & women education including vocational training for those who have dropped from school because of early pregnancies, secure livelihoods as well as using sports (rugby) to address gender stereotypes in the pastoralist communities.
